The Birthday of Chiropractic – September 18, 1895
Most of you have realized by now I’m a bit of a history nerd and would probably be a history teacher somewhere if I didn’t go into healthcare. So how did chiropractic come about? History has shown sketching of adjustment techniques going back to the Greeks, Mayans and Egyptians. 124 years ago today (1895) is the modern-day birth of chiropractic treatment in the United States.
Once upon a time in Davenport, Iowa, a man named Harvey Lillard complained to a man named DD Palmer that his life wasn’t going so well since he was kicked in the head by a horse 4 years prior. His symptoms were neck pain, vertigo, tinnitus and headaches. Palmer dove deep into his innate and figured, let’s give Harvey an adjustment of his neck and upper back. The rest is history. Harvey’s symptoms improved after the treatment and the word spread. Palmer started the first chiropractic college and a profession was born 124 years ago today.
The first chiropractic treatment was given by DD Palmer in 1895.
Will an adjustment cure ALL migraines, tinnitus, vertigo and movement disorder complaints? N0. However, it does make sense to start with a proper neurological evaluation to determine what course of action should be taken.
